Eastnor Castle, near Ledbury, has re-opened for business this week after four weeks of closure for building repairs, spring cleaning and redecoration.
In addition to a new passenger lift which has been installed in order to comply with the new Disabled Discrimination Act, local contractors have been used to clean and redecorate the Great Hall which is over 55 feet tall. A mobile ‘cherry picker' was supplied by Malvern company Arborplant (whose equipment is usually supplied to forestry contractors!) to transport cleaning expert, Roger Page from Much Marcle, to the top of the room to clean every nook and cranny! While castle housekeeping staff cleaned, dusted and polished all the medieval armour, paintings and furniture, the Hall was then repainted by S.J Prosser and Son from Malvern. Finally the contents of the room were replaced in time for Easter weekend when the castle will re-open to the public. Please click on photo to enlarge.
