IN FOR MORE THAN JUST A GLIMPSE

Thursday 8th September 2005 Eastnor Castle will be opening its doors to show off its architectural features and art collection to residents and visitors free of charge on Thursday 8 th September 2005. The owner of the Castle, James Hervey-Bathurst will be giving guided tours of his home at 11.00am, 12.30pm, 2.00pm and 3.30pm, and places must be pre-booked by telephoning 01531 633160. Organised by Eastnor Castle, the opening forms part of Heritage Open Days 2005, a national event co-ordinated by the Civic Trust and part of the European wide initiative, European Heritage Days. The programme is funded and supported by English Heritage. Heritage Open Days activities will take place all over England from Thursday 8 th – Sunday 11 th September 2005. With more than 3,000 properties of every style, period, design and function and a great variety of associated events and activities, Heritage Open Days is England's largest cultural event, promising fascinating insights and fresh inspirations to everyone, whatever their age or background, interest or taste. More than 25,000 local volunteers from all walks of life – civic society members, property owners, estate managers, conservation officers, company directors, tourism managers and education officers – contribute their time and enthusiasm to make this national event happen, while over 800,000 visitors, from pupils to pensioners, make the most of the free invitation each year. Dr Simon Thurley, Chief Executive of English Heritage, said: “Heritage Open Days is a great success story for our heritage. It celebrates people and places and everyone can take part and learn more about their local history. Hundreds of thousands of people will visit properties across the country which they would not normally have access to.
